WHAT IS Truth?

“TRUTH” comes from the root word “True” which means “faithful, trustworthy, honest, and steady in adhering to promises and people…”

The word “True” is rooted in the word variations “dreu“, in other words, “wood, tree“. It refers to the actual meaning “BE firm, solid and steadfast.”

The beauty of the TRUTH is that it is UNIVERSAL. The truth is for everyone. It encompasses all ages, all kinds of people all over the world.

The TRUTH that this curriculum is referring to is beneficial for all.

The TRUTH stands for itself, whether a person believes it or not. For instance, when I say, “The apple on my hand will fall to the ground when I drop it,” my friend, whether you believe it or not, the apple WILL fall. That is the truth on what will happen. No argument there.

TRUTH is meant to be discovered in our lifetime. While there are many Truths that still need to be revealed to us through intensive quest and queries, there are many TRUTHS that we know because it was “discovered” by great thinkers, some of which were persecuted for presenting TRUTHs that seemed so revolutionary during their era. Think of Galileo who insisted that the earth is round when most people thought otherwise for centuries. Nowadays, Galileo’s theories are accepted as TRUTHS.

There are ideas that the majority may think are TRUE but through the test of time, these turn out to be UNTRUE.

For instance, a lot of food that we ingest are not as healthy as we thought or hope to be. Scientists have discovered more truths that give deeper insight on the health implications of what we do, what we eat — take in and apply to our body –, how and when we do tasks. Today’s society is now more conscious of trans fat, GMO, gluten, parabens, etc. etc. — so many new terms that give rise to more TRUTHs that affect our lives.

Popular ideas and concepts may not always equal TRUTHs. And, just because a person believes in something, does not qualify it as TRUTH.

For instance, the concepts that are promoted in advertising is not necessarily the TRUTH that people need to believe. Here’s an interesting case in point: the Marlboro man who promoted Marlboro cigarettes, an image of virility and good health, died of lung cancer. There were many Marlboro men models who were actual long-time smokers who died of lung-related diseases. Whether people believed the truth or not, it had been eventually proven that smoking is bad for the health of those who smoke and those who are exposed to it.

Advertising greatly impacts our mind, feelings, and lifestyle. Oftentimes, a lot of our concepts of truth are influenced by advertising or popular opinions.

Think of the impossibility of flying centuries ago. To travel across the continent in a few days is truth made possible by technology. To sustain an object up in the air for a time was based on the imagination that became realized over the course of time and has given way to a series of realities made possible by applied science, bodies of TRUTHs applied transform our life.
